Project Evaluation

I.
A.) 1. Find a shelter to donate to by October 23
2.Start donations by October 30
3. Have donations into the shelter by Christmas
4. Collect baby toys, food, clothing, blankets, etc

B.) I found a women’s shelter, called Mothers’ Home, to give a donation of baby supplies. When I spoke with the program director at Mothers’ Home, she said they would greatly accept donation of baby supplies. I did not start my fundraiser until November, but I did have a fundraiser at our high school. I gave the donations of baby clothes to Mothers’ Home over Christmas break. I received a large amount of baby clothes as donations. I was hoping to receive a lot baby diapers because the program director at Mothers’ Home said they were in desperate need of diapers.

II. I asked the advice of my Allied Health teacher on what I should do for my project. She helped me by giving me the idea to donate baby supplies to a women’s shelter. That is when I came across Mothers’ Home.

III. I took the risk of having a fundraiser at our school and in doing so; I had the risk of possibly not receiving any supplies.

IV. In conducting a fundraiser at Springfield High and collecting baby supplies to donate to Mothers’ Home, it made me feel like I was doing something meaningful and making a difference in these women’s lives. It made me feel amazing when I walked into Mothers’ Home and gave them a ton of baby clothes. The women that I saw were very thankful for the contribution. My project made me want to conduct more fundraisers and made me realize how wonderful it is to give to other people.

V. One major problem I encountered was finding a women’s shelter in our area. I did not think it would be that difficult. Fortunately, my sister helped me to find a women’s shelter and it turned out to be the perfect place to donate baby supplies to. The second problem I encountered was when I had finished my fundraiser and was ready to donate the baby clothes that I had received. I called Mothers’ Home and spoke with the program director and she said they were swamped with baby clothes and that they would not be accepting any more donations. My heart sank I didn’t know where else to donate the baby clothes, Mothers’ Home was the only women’s shelter I could find that housed pregnant women throughout their pregnancies. I began to search for other women’s shelters but after numerous attempts, I was still left with nowhere. That is when I called Mothers’ Home again and explain my situation to them. They were very understanding and said that they would accept donations of baby clothes.

VI. I learned that I need to manage my time better. It is a lot easier to complete papers and projects if they are done in little sections at a time. I do not think I had as much trouble completing my paper as I did my project. I had goals to start my project in October, but instead I waited until November. I also should have donated the supplies before Christmas because that is when shelters receive many other donations and are overwhelmed with all of them.

VII. I learned that it is easy to avoid high levels of stress by setting goals and accomplishing them in a timely manner. That way if something does not go the way it was intended, there is always enough time to correct the problem or set back.

VIII. The only thing I would do differently with my project would be to advertise my fundraiser a lot more than I did. My results were amazing, but if I had done more advertising, than just flyers, I probably would have received a greater amount of baby supplies.

IX. I would give myself a grade anywhere from a B to an A on my overall project. I think my project was very meaningful and a great experience. If I took anything out of this course, I took a greater appreciation for the things that I have and when given the opportunity to donate supplies, money, or whatever it may be I will definitely take that opportunity. I had never conducted a fundraiser myself so it made me feel like I had really accomplished something when I had received all the baby clothes. I put a lot of time and effort into my project and the result I received were amazing and made me feel wonderful.
